Tina Osen
President and CEO, TOS Insurance Services
Age: 35
Insurance has been Tina Osen's passion since she was a child.
Her father, Herb Osen, allowed her to join him at his workplace: TOS Insurance Services. She now heads the company.
Now known as HUB International TOS Ltd., the company has grown its revenues substantially in the past half-decade. It had $18 million in revenue when Osen became its senior vice-president and chief operating officer in 1999. It now has about $30 million in revenue. As president, Osen has grown TOS's staff to 250 employees who sell $250 million worth of insurance.
She oversees TOS's 10 B.C. offices out of her corporate head office in Burnaby and is quick to pass credit to co-workers for her organization's growth.
"I truly believe that our accomplishments are based on the events of a team, a remarkable group of people who I get to work with every day," she said.
Osen's proudest accomplishment came earlier this year when she hosted a summit of HUB's executive team including the presidents of its 14 subsidiaries. She had employees give short presentations to the visiting VIPs outlining how their work benefited the company.
One of Osen's strategies for success is to have all senior staff sell insurance.
Outside work, Osen has been active with the mentoring organization Virtus. She is a non-voting member of the board at the Insurance Council of British Columbia and sits on disciplinary panels. She has also started attending Forum for Women Entrepreneurs events.
