FOR YOUR EYES ONLY
Ambitious, tenacious, and bold, the newspaper's award winners details the paths that led them to the top.
Ask most of the award winners this year whether 10 years ago they could have anticipated being where they are now, and they'll probably tell you no. Their paths have taken them to companies at which they'd never thought of working; they might have completely changed their careers and trained in new skill sets; or they decided to set out on their own and are drawing revenue in the millions. There's no shortage of twists and turns in these life stories.
Whatever their experience, however, the common thread that binds all the Forty under 40 winners is a potent cocktail of commitment, ambition, and the ability to live beyond what they know themselves capable of doing.
"We never really so much decided on construction, it was more just we wanted to get into business," said Nathan Brandt, whose Abbotford based company, Summit Brooke Construction, has grown to include annnual revenue in excess of $20 millon.
Aritzia COO Jennifer Wong thought she'd get a "real" job and go into banking when she graduated, but a request from Brian Hill convinced her to help him run his company.
Salim Karin, CEO, INNHouse Licensed Retail Concepts, dove into an emerging industry because "we felt it was an opportunity to jump into an industry that was just starting off." His company now generates $15 million annually.
Story after story offers not only useful advice on how to take your own game to the next level, but inspiration for what is possible.
