Bryant Pike
CFO, Rainmaker Entertainment Inc., Age: 29
Even accounting has its Hollywood moments.
Whether attending the première of Battle of Seattle at the Toronto International Film Festival or dealing with the paparazzi hours after actor Denise Richards tossed a photographer’s laptop off a balcony while on the set of Blonde and Blonder, Bryant Pike, CFO of digital animation house Rainmaker Entertainment has settled nicely into an industry niche that has its fair share of excitement.
“I never had any intention of getting into the entertainment business, but the firm I worked with specialized in [B.C. film and television production] tax credits and accounting and tax filings. So I got a little exposure, and the opportunity fell into my lap to go work at a senior management level for a film company,” said Pike, who subsequently joined Kirk Shaw’s Insight Films, Canada’s largest production company.
“Before working in it, I never really considered the movie and television business to be a mainstay of the B.C. economy, but after I got involved [I saw] the numbers,” said Pike. “Everything from hotels to flights and restaurants, it is amazing how widespread it is and how much of a driver it is in the city.”
Working with Insight is one of his biggest career highlights to date, and Pike credits his industry experience and entrepreneurship on his continuing relationship with Shaw.
Pike, who played minor hockey in Richmond as a teenager, is involved with Shaw in the coaching of a minor hockey team, the Division 4 Vancouver Thunder Birds, a commitment Pike jokes takes up more time than his day job. He previously coached a Richmond Minor Girls AA hockey team as a teen, but a focus on building his career left him no time in his schedule.
“I didn’t want to sacrifice the kids by not being able to show up or commit to it.” •
