Kaan Sayiner
Director of marketing and communications, Mr. Lube Canada, Age: 36
When it comes to business, it’s all about balance for Kaan Sayiner, who describes himself as a left-brain/right-brain hybrid.
In 2006, he was recruited by Mr. Lube Canada to launch a new brand identity for the company and table an aggressive growth plan. As a result, the franchise added 10 new locations in the past 18 months, and sales have grown by 11%.
“I’ve been told I have a unique set of skills. I’m equally adept at the marketing side of it as I am the business and leadership style of it,” said Sayiner.
Prior to his role with Mr. Lube, Sayiner was the acting director of marketing and communications for Clearnet Communications in Toronto.
In 2002, he moved to Bell Mobility as the associate director of consumer marketing where he managed a team of five employees and was responsible for a $3 million promotional budget.
He said his interest in marketing began after he left university.
“It was identifying … a need for, I thought, greater clarity around what the customer experience should be, and that led me into marketing.”
Sayiner is a firm believer in trying everything once, but he believes one of the things that has made him a success is his “never say die” attitude.
“I don’t believe that anything is ever perfect or right; just because something exists doesn’t mean you should leave it alone. I constantly review and analyze the work that’s been done even if it’s successful,” he said.
This last year has been particularly successful for Sayiner.
He’s won a host of marketing awards, including the Marketer of the Year Award from the B.C. chapter of the American Marketing Association. •
