Bombardier wins contract to build Evergreen Line trains

Tue Dec 4, 2012 10:00am PST

The B.C. government and TransLink have awarded a $90 million contract to provide new Evergreen Line trains to Canadian company Bombardier Transportation (TSX:BBD).

Under the contract, Bombardier will build 28 SkyTrain cars for the new Evergreen Line and existing Expo and Millennium Lines. The contract was awarded as a result of request for expressions of interest in February 2012.

Trains for the Canada Line were built by Rotem, a division of Hyundai Motor Group.

The new $1.4 billion, 11-kilometre Evergreen Line will link Burnaby, Port Moody and Coquitlam between Lougheed Town Centre in Burnaby and Douglas College in Coquitlam.

SNC-Lavalin Inc. was previously announced as the successful bidder on the contract to design, build and finance the Evergreen Line. SNC-Lavalin also built the Canada Line.
