Global launches B.C.'s first 24-hour news channel

"The launch of Global News: BC1 demonstrates our commitment to providing viewers with unparalleled access to the news they want, when they want it, while continuing to maintain the high standards set forward by Global News," said Troy Reeb, senior vice-president, news and station operations for Shaw Media, Global's parent company and technology partner for BC1.

"We know that Vancouverites are already among the biggest consumers of news in the country, and as the first of its kind in the province, Global News: BC1 will leverage the resources that have made us British Columbia's number one choice for news."

The new BC1 anchors are Sonia Sunger, Leigh Kjekstad, Scott McLean and Asa Rehman.

Viewers can tune into Global BC Morning News, which broadcast simultaneously on Global's regular channels and the new BC1 http://www.globaltvbc.com/topics/bc1/, for daily business news reports from the Business in Vancouver editors at 6:40 a.m. and 7:45 a.m.

BC1 is only available to Shaw subscribers with a cable box. It is not available to Telus Optik TV or Bell ExpressVu subscribers. It also is not yet available to Shaw Direct satellite subscribers.

BC1 in SD is included in the Shaw digital basic (Legacy) package. BC1 in HD is on channel 216.

The HD version of BC1 is currently only available in Vancouver but will roll out to the following B.C. regions on March 21:

  • Nanaimo-Parksville-Duncan;
  • Port Alberni;
  • Courtenay-Comox;
  • Campbell River;
  • Victoria;
  • Bowen Island;
  • Chilliwack;
  • Kamloops
  • Kelowna-Penticton-Vernon;
  • Salmon Arm;
  • Prince George;
  • Quesnel;
  • 100 Mile House;
  • Fort St. John-Dawson Creek;
  • Grand Forks;
  • Cranbrook-Kimberley;
  • Williams Lake; and
  • Fernie.
