Vancouver woman sues daughter’s acting coach and performing arts school

Tue Feb 5, 2013 12:01am PST

Vancouver resident Mei Rong Wei has filed suit against her daughter’s acting coach and the coach’s performing arts school over what she alleges is a breach of an education contract.

The January 3 suit names acting coach Xiao Min Zhang and the Canadian Film and Television Institute Ltd. The plaintiff alleges that the defendants did not deliver what was promised when she enrolled her daughter in acting classes known as the Star Training Class.

The suit states that the plaintiff was told that her daughter would receive additional class time beyond what was included in the school’s regular acting class and that her daughter would star in at least one movie produced by the coach or the coach’s financial backers.

The plaintiff states that her daughter has not received any additional training and has not been offered a role in any movies.

She further alleges that not only is her daughter not receiving additional instruction, some of the instruction that she is receiving has nothing to do with acting and is instead martial arts training.

In addition, the suit states that the plaintiff’s daughter was assaulted by the defendant, saying that the defendant threw objects at her daughter when she yawned in class.

The plaintiff seeks return of tuition in the amount of $34,896 and damages relating to the assault.

As of press time, no response had been filed.

None of these allegations has been proven in court.
