Trump tower completion delayed by shoddy construction management, developer claims

Holborn Developments (West Georgia) Ltd., the developer behind Vancouver's Trump International Tower and Hotel, is suing Urban One Construction Management Inc. over alleged failures to properly manage the project, which delayed the building's completion.

Holborn filed a notice of civil claim in B.C. Supreme Court on January 17, claiming the construction management firm failed to properly supervise trade contractors and create a "proper project schedule."

In addition, the defendant allegedly failed to reject, identify or inspect deficient work, while security for the project was also allegedly inadequate. Moreover, Holborn claims Urban One failed "to ensure that the appliances provided for the project were in good and working condition, including, but not limited to, failing to ensure that the appliances were properly connected," the claim states.

Urban One, according to the lawsuit, failed "to perform under the contract with the degree of care, skill and diligence that would be expected of a professional construction manager."

Holborn seeks unspecific damages for breach of contract, negligence, and construction delays. The allegations have not been proven or tested in court.

“There is no substance or merit behind the allegations identified in the lawsuit filed by Holborn Developments (West Georgia) Ltd. and we intend to vigorously defend against these claims,” said Urban One president Allan Beron in an emailed statement sent through an outside communications firm.
