Three-term Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson will not be seeking reelection October 20.

In a Facebook post, Robertson said his decision is “one of the hardest decisions of my life.”

“Ten years is a long time in politics,” he wrote. “An important part of leadership is recognizing when to step aside to make space for new leaders.”

Robertson said he plans to focus on securing funding for the Broadway subway and addressing housing affordability in the last 10 months of his term.

Robertson was first elected in 2008.
