More than 200,000 drivers have taken advantage of a half-price deal being offered to encourage early registration for a new toll that will be charged on the expanded Port Mann Bridge when it opens next month.
The expanded 10-lane bridge connecting Coquitlam and Surrey cost $2.6 billion to build. It will take until 2050 to pay for it through the new toll.
The B.C. government has been offering half-price deals to get drivers to register early with its TReO automated toll charging system.
Drivers who register by February 28, 2013, will pay $1.50 per trip across the bridge until December 2013.
Drivers who sign up before November 30 will receive a $30 credit on their account – equivalent to 20 free trips. Drivers who do not register by February 28, 2013, will pay full toll rates of $3 per tip starting March 1, 2013.
Drivers can register online at www.treo.ca for the discounted rates.
