IKEA Canada will open its massive new Richmond store on April 25, the company announced Tuesday.
The new 334,000-square-foot Richmond store on Jacombs Road is adjacent to the existing IKEA store on Sweden Way, which will close three days before the new one opens.
“Our journey of developing the Richmond store into a completely new shopping experience for our customers is well on its way,” said IKEA Richmond store manager Maya Abdou.
“We have been providing inspirational home solutions to customers in Richmond for 35 years, longer than any other IKEA market in Canada. We look forward to continuing that tradition by offering our most loyal customers an even bigger and better IKEA shopping experience.”
The new store features a geo-exchange heating and cooling system, a rooftop garden for staff to grow vegetables and a water storage and filtration system that will reduce the storm water flows and volume. Solar panels will be used to generate electricity to light the parking lot, and a thermal solar system will be used to generate warm water for the restaurant.
The new store is scheduled to have a grand opening April 25 at 7 a.m.
