B.C.'s Ministry of Environment has approved the construction of a 120-megawatt wind farm 16 kilometres southwest of Dawson Creek.

The $240 million Bear Mountain wind project will have 57 wind turbine generators, which could produce enough electricity for 38,000 homes. The project has a purchase agreement with BC Hydro and commercial delivery of electricity could begin in 2009 pending other government licences, leases and approvals.

The project, which is being proposed by a partnership between Victoria-based Aeolis Wind Power Generation, Alberta-based AltaGas Income Trust and Dawson Creek-based Peace Energy Cooperative, is expected to create between 60 and 120 construction jobs and six permanent positions.
