Victoria has partnered with Boeing Canada to provide 100 aerospace internships over the next five years.
University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University graduates will be interning at Boeing's Richmond-based AeroInfo Systems Inc. With more than 130 staff in 2008, AeroInfo, an aerospace business and technical advisory and IT firm, has grown to be one of B.C.'s largest high tech companies.
Projects for AeroInfo interns will include aircraft safety, maintenance, engineering, manufacturing and parts management. The province and AeroInfo will each be providing $750,000 for the 100 internships. The federal government's industrial research and development internship program is contributing another $750,000 for project management, training and travel.
The partnership with AeroInfo is B.C.'s largest private investment in internships to date. It's part of the province's four-year Accelerate BC program, which has matched more than 350 interns with B.C. businesses and organizations in the life sciences, clean technology, natural resources, energy and business services. By 2011, the program is targeted to have provided 650 internships.
