Astral Radio, Canada’s largest commercial radio broadcaster, has chosen the Brightcove cloud-based online video platform to deliver video for the organization’s 83 radio station properties.
With Brightcove, Astral Radio is able to deliver customized, interactive video across its radio station websites, which include Vancouver stations Virgin 95.3 and AM650.
This new partnership will allow Virgin 95.3 and AM650, along with Astral’s other radio properties, to deliver interactive online video on their websites. The online video content includes band interviews and performances, as well as footage from events hosted by the stations.
This is a major push in Astral’s digital strategy to offer listeners a new dimension from the traditional radio studio.
The online video platform makes it easier to share content with fans via social media.
Brad Phillips, vice-president of British Columbia operations at Astral Radio Vancouver, said, “With an accelerating trend of people finding video through social platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, this new Brightcove tool will allow us to reach out to a bigger demographic than just relying on traditional media alone.”
There are also plans to bring the Brightcove online video platform to smartphones and tablets in the near future.
A spokesman for Astral Radio Vancouver told Business in Vancouver that “the platform is being rolled out across the country and will be available online within the next few days.”
