B.C. and Alberta construction associations push for faster implementation of TILMA

The Independent Contractors and Businesses Association of B.C. and the Merit Contractors Association of Alberta are calling for faster implementation of the Trade Investment and Labour Mobility Agreement.

The Independent Contractors and Businesses Association of B.C. and the Merit Contractors Association of Alberta are calling for faster implementation of the Trade Investment and Labour Mobility Agreement.

Both associations said TILMA is needed to open up and provide greater mobility between the B.C. and Alberta labour markets given the construction boom in both provinces.

Despite progress being made on that front, both associations are concerned that some trades and professions with labour-mobility barriers may become exempt from TILMA.

Both associations are calling for a final deadline of implementation that extends to all occupations in both provinces.
