Canada’s population has passed the 34 million mark, according to Statistics Canada, and B.C. leads all provinces when it comes to growth.
In a report released Monday morning, the nation’s population was estimated at 34,019,000 as of April 1, representing a 0.26% increase or 88,100 more people than the previous estimate made January 1, 2010.
B.C. led all other provinces in population growth for the third consecutive quarter.
As of April 1, it was estimated that 4,510,900 people called B.C. home, a 0.37% increase when compared with the January estimate. Three-quarters of the increase was thanks to net international migration. The province also ranked first in net interprovincial migration for the third consecutive quarter.
StatsCan said the national increase was smaller than the population increase during the same period in 2009.
Overall net international migration to Canada was down.
