Canada gained 69,000 jobs last month, but B.C. can’t share in the good news.

According to Statistics Canada data released Friday, employment increases across the country last month were evenly split between full and part-time jobs, and occurred in business, building, public administration, agriculture and support-service sectors.

The gains were felt in six provinces, including: Ontario, Alberta, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, Manitoba and Prince Edward Island.

But Canada’s westernmost province was noticeably absent from the list, losing some 9,100 jobs in January, compared with December 2010.

The declines were felt most seriously in the part-time category with a 4% drop last month.

This, while the labour force in B.C. increased 6,400 to approximately 2.45 million.
