B.C. manufacturing sales in August increased at a pace that exceeded the national average, Statistics Canada reported October 14.
B.C. manufacturers sold $3.17 billion worth of manufactured items in August. That’s up 8.1% compared with the same month in 2010.
Canada-wide, manufacturers sold $47.63 billion worth of manufactured products in August – 6.7% more than in August 2010.
Yukon manufacturers enjoyed the biggest sales increase in August (35.5%) compared with the same month in 2010. Newfoundland was the only part of Canada to record a decrease in manufacturing sales in August, compared with the same month in 2010.
Larger product categories, which had the largest growth Canada-wide, included petroleum and coal products (17.2%), primary metal (20.5%) and chemical products (10.5%)
