Other Canadians may prefer receiving cash back for their credit card purchases, but British Columbians prefer travel rewards, according to a study by Ipsos-Reid.
About 39% of B.C. residents said they prefer to have a travel rewards credit card, followed by a cash-back credit card (30%). About 19% said they liked merchandise and gift card rewards, while 10% preferred having a basic credit card.
In comparison, residents in Quebec and Ontario preferred cash back credit cards (40% and 35% respectively), followed by merchandise and gift card rewards (29% and 28%, respectively).
Nationally, 33% of Canadians preferred to have a cash back credit card, with 27% desiring a merchandise or gift card rewards card and 23% wanting a travel rewards card.
British Columbians seemed to be the most comfortable using and having a credit card. The study found B.C. residents are the most likely to have a credit card with a rewards system (70%), compared with the national average of 58%.
They are the most likely to use a credit card to make a travel purchase (77%), purchase gas (53%), making a clothing or retail purchase (52%), or make drugstore purchases (35%).
