Retail sales in B.C. reached $4.7 billion in April, an 8.1% year-over-year increase and the fifth consecutive month in which the province experienced boosted sales, according to Statistics Canada.

The April sales total represents an 1.5% increase over March's total and resulted from strong sales of new cars, gasoline, home electronics, appliances and furnishings. The province's retail sales increase was the third highest in the country after Saskatchewan (12.2%) and Manitoba (8.3%).
