Confidence among B.C. small business owners is rebounding after a slight Olympic hangover.
B.C. business owners were the most confident in the country in December 2009 before street closures and trepidation surrounding the 2010 Winter Olympic Games worried some entrepreneurs.
At least that’s what the Canadian Federation of Independent Business’ business confidence barometer found when it pegged B.C. business owners with a score of 72.2 in December.
That figure declined to 70.1 in January, 68.7 in February and 68 in March. B.C. business owners dropped to being the third most confident compared with provincial counterparts in January, slipped to fourth in February and fell to fifth in March.
“In April, the rest of the country seemed to lose a bit of confidence and B.C. started to shoot up again,” CFIB’s B.C. director Brian Bonney told Business in Vancouver.
The vast majority of B.C. businesses – 85% – say that the overall state of business is either good or satisfactory. This is up from 79% last month.
