Last year's economic downturn led to a third of B.C.'s technology companies cutting staff, but with economic recovery on the horizon, B.C.'s tech sector is forecast to increase staffing levels this year.
That's according to the BC Technology Industry Association's third annual B.C. labour study released Tuesday.
The study suggested the province's tech sector cut approximately 6% of its workforce last year. It predicted, however, that sector-wide employment would rise by a similar proportion by September 2010.
The study noted that 34% of tech firms actually increased staff last year, while another third kept staffing levels unchanged.
It suggested that by 2011, the industry will likely face the labour shortage problem that plagued the sector prior to the recession when more than 81,000 people were employed by tech firms in B.C.
