The B.C. Supreme Court has granted an injunction to B.C. Transmission Corp. to prevent Tsawwassen homeowners from blocking construction of a new high-voltage power line to Vancouver Island.
For years, residents living around the existing power line have been fighting to prevent the upgrade of the existing line. They claimed the higher capacity lines would pose a cancer risk to residents.
Since construction began in early June, some residents have tried to block work on the new line.
The Supreme Court, however, confirmed the BCTC had all the necessary permits and authority necessary to construct the project on its 50-year-old right-of-way.
The BCTC is working to complete construction by October so the line can be used to serve 700,000 customers on Vancouver Island and the southern Gulf Islands.
