Fewer people are choosing to fly to holiday destinations because of rising airline fuel surcharges and additional fees, according to a newly released BCAA Travel survey.
About 43% of respondents said they're flying less because of the additional costs of flying, while 32% said they're trying to make more use of reward miles or accumulated travel points. Another 22% said they're offsetting higher airline costs by visiting more affordable destinations.
Some of the most annoying fees and surcharges, according to the survey, include fees for seat selection (30%), excess baggage fees (18%), fuel surcharges (16%) and paying for blankets and pillows (14%).
More than 60% of respondents said they'd stuff all their belongings into one suitcase before they'd pay for a second piece of luggage.
