B.C. unemployment rate falls

More British Columbians were employed in May, pushing the province’s unemployment rate down 0.3% to 7.6%, compared with 7.9% in April.

More British Columbians were employed in May, pushing the province’s unemployment rate down 0.3% to 7.6%, compared with 7.9% in April.

B.C.’s population grew by 4,400 people to 3,774,900 in May compared with 3,770,500 in April.

Employment, however, rose by 5,200 people to 2,278,100 in May compared with 2,272,900 in April.

One interesting shift is that the number of full-time workers rose significantly while the number of part-time workers is falling.

There were 24,900 more full-time employed people in B.C. in May compared with April.

In contrast, there were 19,700 fewer part-time employees in May compared with April.
