When it comes to Canadian vehicle sales, trucks have been the more popular choice for seven months running, the longest period in which truck sales exceeded sales of passenger cars since Statistics Canada started tracking such figures in 1946.
Data released August 13 showed new vehicle sales in Canada grew 2.5% in June to 130,135 compared with 126,973 cars in May.
B.C. sales, however, saw a tiny drop of four automobiles to 12,814. The province enjoyed a bit of a boost year over year given that 1.6% more vehicles were purchased in June 2010 than in June 2009. National vehicle sales were up 7.7% in June compared with the same month the year before. Consumers, however, were not buying cars. It was higher truck sales driving the increase.
That category includes minivans, sport-utility vehicles, light and heavy trucks, vans and buses. It grew 3.2% to 72,709 units in June.?
