The BC Technology Industry Association (BCTIA) has named this year’s 2011 Technology Impact Award (TIA) winners, highlighting some of industry’s top performers.
“When we look at the emerging company and the company of the year awards, when you look at these growth rates and the profitability, it’s pretty obvious that at least those companies have clearly recovered from the downturn,” BCTIA president and CEO Pascal Spothelfer said.
The BCTIA named PMC-Sierra (TSX-PMCS) company of the year. The company leverages intellectual property, design expertise and systems knowledge across a broad range of applications aimed at global original equipment manufacturer leaders in the enterprise storage, wide-area-network infrastructure, fibre-to-the-home and laser print market segments.
Former Bycast Inc. CEO Moe Kermani was named person of the year, “for his vision and leadership in establishing the company as the world leader in storage virtualization software for large scale digital archives and storage in the cloud,” according to a BCTIA press release.
Executive search firm Odgers Berndtson won the community leadership award for consistently achieving 100% employee and partner participation in its community development programs. These programs include leading a campaign to develop a new facility at Nanook House, a subsidized daycare for vulnerable children and their families where staff spends company time reading and playing with the children each week.
Mark Betteridge, executive director and CEO of Discovery Parks Trust, was recognized with the Bill Thompson Award for the highest level of leadership in the B.C. technology industry. Under Betteridge’s leadership since 1991, Discovery Parks has created more than two million square feet of office, wet lab and dry lab space to support B.C.’s innovation economy.
