Simon Fraser University’s Beedie School of Business awarded Scotiabank its Nancy McKinstry Award for Leadership in Diversity.
The award was presented Wednesday at SFU’s Segal Graduate School campus in Vancouver at a sold-out breakfast.
Scotiabank received the award in recognition of its high diversity in its composition of staff, management and board.
“Scotiabank should be commended for its commitment to diversity, which not only benefits society as a whole but also the success of organizations,” Daniel Shapiro, dean of the Beedie School of Business said in a press release.
The bank’s outreach activities and workplace culture were also applauded.
The award was presented to Scotiabank’s Barb Ruff, vice-president, Scotiabank, Southeast BC, Central East Vancouver district.
The Leadership in Diversity Awards were established in 2009 in honour of Nancy McKinstry for her contributions as chair of the board of governors to SFU.
Other reward recipients include: Alice Longhurst, former director of mentorship programs for the Women’s Executive Network and SFU MBA student; and Milton Wong, former chancellor of SFU, founder of the Laurier Institute and former chairman of HSBC Asset Management.
Longhurst was awarded the Nancy McKinstry graduate student scholarship for leadership for being a leader in promoting opportunities for women in business.
Wong was honoured with the lifetime achievement award for his commitment to promoting diversity in business and society.
