The B.C. Bioenergy Network has unveiled $1.5 million in funding for a project that will convert municipal source-separated, organic waste into vehicle and aviation biofuels.
The announcement, one of the first to kick off Globe 2010, comes on the day when the eyes of environmental activists from around the world are trained on the province.
Delegates have converged on Vancouver thios week to celebrate the 20th anniversary of North America's largest international conference on the business of the environment.
The provincially funded, industry-led network will provide the conditional financing to B.C.-based International Composting Corporation for the $7.7 million project.
It is the first demonstration of these technologies in the world and industry insiders believe it will help to develop and support the renewable bioenergy and biofuels industry in B.C.
The Globe conference takes place at the Vancouver Convention Centre from March 24 through 26.
More than 10,000 participants from at least 84 countries are expected to join an elite roster of business and government leaders who will address the future of the burgeoning sustainability movement.
