A Vancouver company which designs mine water treatment plants is building a new pilot project for a U.S. mining firm.
BioteQ Environmental Technologies Inc. (TSX:BQE) said in a release Monday morning that construction of the plant, whose location or dollar value was not disclosed, is expected to be completed this year.
BioteQ has built 10 plants at sites in Canada, U.S., China, Australia and Mexico and has additional projects in design and construction.
Following completion, the customer has the option to have BioteQ build a full-scale plant under a design-supply-transfer business model in which BioteQ would provide fee-based services, and the plant would be owned and operated by the customer.
The project, which will recover dissolved metal from contaminated water, would be similar to BioteQ’s operation in Arizona. It jointly operates a plant that recovers copper from the drainage of a large low-grade stockpile.
BioteQ CEO Brad Marchant said in a release that pilot projects are an important part of BioteQ’s strategy to enter new markets and secure new customers. The project is the first of two pilot plants the company has scheduled this year.
BioteQ’s share price was up $0.01 to $0.76 in mid-morning trading.
BioteQ president and COO David Kratochvil was named as a BIV Top Forty under 40 winner in December 2008: (issue 1001; December 30, 2008-January 5, 2009).
