Ever heard of a brewer that produces products that both intoxicate and detoxify? Surrey-based Central City Brewing Co. aims to be the first.
Owner Darryll Frost told Business in Vancouver late Wednesday that his company plans to launch a line of botanical teas that will keep both his canning line and his workers busy while they wait for beer to ferment.
He has a national health product license that enables him to claim therapeutic properties on the label of his Veritéa-branded teas.
The result is that one of his three teas will be named Detox and will contain aronia berries along with a mix of strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries.
“The tea will be produced in the same vessels as our beer. We’ll do a 40 hectolitre batch of each of the three teas,” Frost said.
Central City regularly ranks among B.C.’s fastest-growing brewers. British Columbia Liquor Distribution Branch statistics show that the brewery’s revenue increased:
- 293% in the year ended March 31;
- 223% in the year ended March 31, 2009; and
- 276% in the year ended March 31, 2008.
Frost said he has spent more than $3 million since 2006 to transform his brew pub into a brewery.
“We bought the most sophisticated canning line on the planet. It’s the one Anheuser-Busch [InBev NV (NYSE:BUD)] uses to produce Budweiser.”
