New figures from the BC Liquor Distribution Branch (BCLDB) show imported beers continue to grow in popularity in B.C.

During the 12-month period ending March 31, the BCLDB sold more than 52 million litres of imported beer, a 13% increase over the previous year, according to figures released last Friday.

Domestic beer sales climbed 1.9%, although domestic beer accounts for 72% of total beer sales in the province.

Beer remains the most popular product sold at liquor stores with 73% of market share, followed by wine (15%), ciders and coolers (7%) and spirits (6%).

Unlike beer, domestic and imported wines are relatively equal in popularity.

Sales of domestic wines increased 4.3% in the last year while import wine sales increased 0.7%. Overall, total wine sales increased 3.4%.
