Engineers trained in Canada and Australia will have an easier time getting their designations recognized following the recent signing of a new agreement between national engineering associations in the two countries.

Engineers Canada and Engineers Australia have signed an international mobility agreement to streamline the mutual recognition of each other's engineering designations and licences. Under the agreement, Canada's P.Eng. designation will be recognized in Australia and Australia's CPEng. designation will be recognized in Canada.

With the agreement, engineers in both countries can take advantage of a wider range of opportunities to work in each other's jurisdictions.

The agreement was developed with funding from Canada's Export Market Development Program through the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.

The agreement still needs to be ratified in Canada by the 12 provincial and territorial associations that regulate engineers in their respective jurisdictions.
