Canadians among most committed workers: survey

Canadians are among the world's most engaged employees, according to a global Right Management survey of workers in 15 industrialized countries.

More than 40% of the 2,000 Canadians surveyed said they were engaged and committed to their jobs and their organizations, compared to 34% of global respondents to the survey.

Being fairly rewarded for their work, working with senior leaders that value employees, and a company with a strong customer reputation were among the key factors that influenced an employee's level of engagement.

Henryk Krajewski, vice-president and national practice leader for Right Management said, "What these drivers have in common is that they reflect an employee's sense of belonging and a desire to participate in a meaningful way."

Other countries with high levels of employee commitment included India, New Zealand and the U.S., while those with the least committed staff were in Japan and Korea.

While Canadians are among the most engaged in the world, the survey found the majority (59%) are not fully engaged in their work.

"The finding suggest that despite widespread efforts and investment, organizations have not yet cracked the code on how to involve employees in meaningful dialogue and activity that can lead to increased engagement, leverage and productivity inside the organization."

Right Management surveyed more than 28,800 employees across 10 industries in 15 countries.
