Canadians optimistic about 2010: Ipsos-Reid

Almost three-quarters of Canadians are optimistic that 2010 will be a good year for creating jobs and getting people back to work, according to a poll by Ipsos-Reid. About two-thirds of Canadians felt confident about their own personal finances.

About two-thirds of Canadians felt confident about their own personal finances.

Looking back at 2009, 47% said they were somewhat affected by the economy, while 18% said the economy affected them a lot. About 14% said they lost their job this year, and a further 14% said someone else in their household lost their job this year.

Consumer confidence recovered by the summer of 2009, according to a Harris-Decima Investor's Group index. The index hit 85.5 in November, slightly off a high of 86.5 in August.
