The Vancouver 2010 red mittens are selling out, but hundreds of thousands are expected this week at all of the Hudson's Bay Company stores.

The Vancouver 2010 red mittens are selling out, but hundreds of thousands are expected this week at all of the Hudson's Bay Company stores.

More than a million pairs have been sold since October and about 300,000 more are expected in Zellers, The Bay and Home Outfitters stores across the country this week. Several hundred thousand more will be available after the holiday rush in the lead up to the Olympic Games starting February 12, 2010.

The $10 mittens, which were introduced to provide additional funding for the five-year Own the Podium 2010 program, has been among the most successful Olympic-related items.

Although, 2010 Canadian Olympic team apparel is expected to beat previous sales records. VANOC noted more than half a million hoodies, toques and scares have been sold. The official Team Canada hockey jersey is projected to significantly outsell the sweaters produced for the gold metal-winning teams at Salt Lake City.
