Cantest name change no joke

A good rule of thumb is to be skeptical when a company announces that starting April Fools Day it will officially change its corporate name.

Burnaby-based Cantest Ltd., however, was serious when it announced that starting April 1 it will officially change its name to Maxxam Analytics.

This wasn't the case when search engine giant Google Inc. announced April 1 that it would immediately change its name to Topeka. Google's splash website changed its iconic brand, spelled in blue, red, yellow and green letters, to Topeka. The new logo was depicted in the same font and in the same colours as the original Google.

Maxxam's genuine name change stems from Maxxam Analytics International Corp. buying Cantest for an undisclosed amount on October 19.

The company has 1,800 employees and is Canada's largest independent analytical laboratory services company.

The name change is the final step in Cantest and Maxxam's integration process.
