The provincial government wants casinos to reduce the amount of cash they use and improve worker training to combat money laundering.
On Wednesday, Victoria published a review of the British Columbia Lottery Corp. (BCLC) that said the organization “employs standard and appropriate anti-money-laundering strategies”, and that the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch “has the required level of expertise and is capable of providing oversight related to anti-money laundering and associated criminal activities at gaming facilities.”
Despite the good news, the review recommended that BCLC create an “audit” trail by encouraging casinos to pay customers by cheque.
The review also recommended that BCLC improve employee training and ensure that all employees understand what money laundering is.
The province said a key objective of the report is to transition toward electronic funds without discouraging play.
The report was initiated earlier this year.
