Cellex fuel cells to power Wal-Mart warehouse lift trucks

Richmond-based Cellex Power Products, a subsidiary of New York-headquartered Plug Power Inc. (Nasdaq:PLUG), has received its largest order thus far for its GenDrive fuel cell power units from Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE:WMT).

Richmond-based Cellex Power Products, a subsidiary of New York-headquartered Plug Power Inc. (Nasdaq:PLUG), has received its largest order thus far for its GenDrive fuel cell power units from Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE:WMT).

Specific terms of the deal were not disclosed; however, Plug Power said the fuel cells will be used at one of Wal-Mart's food distribution centres in Washington Court House, Ohio.

The order follows the successful trial of Cellex fuel cells at two Wal-Mart distribution centres in Ohio in late 2006.

The fuel cells will replace the traditional lead-acid batteries used by the pallet trucks and is part of Wal-Mart's overall sustainability strategy.

Cellex was acquired by Plug Power in April 2007.
