Chong to take on regional economics portfolio

Following weeks of cabinet shuffles, the political landscape in Victoria changed yet again Monday afternoon.

Following weeks of cabinet shuffles, the political landscape in Victoria changed yet again Monday afternoon.

Ida Chong, Minister of Sciences and Universities, was handed the regional economic and skills development portfolio after Moira Stilwell became the first person to announce her candidacy Monday for the Liberal leadership.

The move comes after numerous changes recent weeks, including Energy Minister Bill Bennett’s ejection from cabinet, Premier Gordon Campbell’s resignation and an October cabinet shuffle.

Stilwell, MLA for Vancouver-Langara, was given the regional economic and skills development portfolio in October after holding the advanced education and labour market portfolio.

The ministry is responsible for areas such as labour market policy, community development and land use planning.
