Sprott-Shaw’s parent company, CIBT Education Group (TSX:MBA), has once again extended its hand into China.
The company, which operates colleges in 17 countries, said Monday it had signed a memorandum of understanding with Hebei Normal University (HNU) in China to offer English language training and hotel and tourism management programs.
Two weeks ago, CIBT announced similar partnerships with Guangzhou University and Zhaoqing University in China's Guangdong province.
The agreement would see the programs offered through CIBT’s Global Learning Network, allowing instructors in Vancouver to teach courses in China via video conferencing technology.
Hebei, meantime, would be responsible for providing facilities, marketing and recruiting students for the program.
Hebei employs a faculty and staff of 3,438 and has a student population of nearly 35,000.
CIBT chief executive Toby Chu said a demo class was conducted earlier this month with “excellent results.”
“Based on this positive interest, CIBT and HNU have agreed to offer the proposed programs using our Global Learning Network platform to the faculty and staffs of HNU, and aim to include HNU students in the future,” said Chu.
Business in Vancouver last caught up with CIBT in May after the company had formed a partnership with DeVry University. (See: “CIBT banks on acquisition upgrades” – issue 1126, May 24 to 30.)
At press time, CIBT’s shares were unchanged at $0.34.
