The City of Vancouver, the University of British Columbia and Telus Corp. (TSX: T, T.A; NYSE: TU) are three of 55 top B.C. employers, according to MediaCorp Canada Inc.’s recently released 2011 rankings.

In a press release, Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson noted that this distinction, which the city has won for the third consecutive year, helps the municipality attract and retain talent.

ěI know all of council shares my commitment to continue to make the city an employer of choice and one that attracts and retains the best and the brightest,î he said.

The city employs more than 9,000 staff between the city, the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation, the Vancouver Police Department, Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services and the Vancouver Public Library.

“We have outstanding people at the city, and we’ve worked hard to ensure our employees have the best workplace and environment to do their job well,” Robertson said. “Our citizens rely on the valuable services provided by city staff every day, which is why we are fortunate to have such a talented and dedicated team of employees in the city of Vancouver.”
