Canadians are somewhat confident about their current situation, but concern is growing about their future, according to a survey by TNS Canadian Facts.

TSN’s May consumer confidence survey found consumers remained fairly confident about their economic and employment with the present situation index remaining steady.

However, their feelings about the economy, their household income and their employment prospects over the next six months grew more uncertain in May. The expectations index declined for a second consecutive month after a significant increase in March.

“Canadians seem to be lurching forward and back based on the news they’re getting,” said Michael Antecol, vice-president of TNS Canadian Facts. “Last month the news was positive. This month, it’s negative. It seems we can expect this bumpy ride to continue along with the uneven economic news.”
