Pacific Building Systems' pacific homes division has won a contract to build 48 townhomes in the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar.
As part of the $4 million contract for the Cowichan Valley-based firm all major structural components of the homes such as floors, walls and ceilings will be built at Pacific's main production facility in Cobble Hill on Vancouver Island. The components will then be shipped to Mongolia, where they will be assembled.
The deal is the latest for Pacific Building Systems, which makes prefabricated buildings for clients in the U.S., Korea, Iceland and Israel.
Forestry Innovation Investment Ltd., a provincial agency promoting B.C.'s forest practices around the world, has been working with the Mongolian government for the past 18 months to adapt its building codes to Canadian standards to expand the wood-frame housing sector in the Asian country.
