B.C. Crown counsel named 25 people charged with 61 offences stemming from the June 15 riot in downtown Vancouver that followed the Stanley Cup final.
The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) last month recommended 163 charges against 60 people.
Those charged include 24 adults and one juvenile. They include:
- eight people from Vancouver;
- nine from Surrey;
- two from Burnaby;
- two from Maple Ridge.
Others were from Richmond, Delta, North Vancouver and Seattle.
The most popular charge was participating in a riot (25), followed by mischief (19) and break and enter (13).
“I’m glad our judicial system is moving forward,” Blenz Coffee president George Moen told Business in Vancouver November 30.
“We are hoping that if any of these charges relate to Blenz that it will make our civil case easier. The burden of proof on a civil suit is a lot less than a criminal suit.”
Moen’s company plans to sue those who vandalized and stole from some of its locations during the riot.
