More employers are expanding employee training than cutting, according to a new survey by Accountemps.
Almost a third of respondents (31%) said they were either expanding somewhat or expanding significantly their professional development programs for staff compared with levels a year ago.
About 17% said training programs had been reduced somewhat while 6% said they had been reduced significantly. About 45% said they had not made any change to training levels.
Accountemps' Dianne Hunnam-Jones said companies should consider all their options before deciing to cut back on employee training.
"Providing employees relevant training will help them enhance their skill sets and subsequent contributions to the firm. Additionally, employees who feel supported professionally are more likely to remain loyal to their firms when an improved economy stimulates new job opportunities."
