Consumers will now be able to drop off their old computers, printers, TVs and other electronics to authorized Encorp Return-It sites in B.C.
Encorp has partnered with the Electronics Stewardship Association of B.C. to manage the province's new electronics recycling program.
Authorized Encorp sites will accept TVs and all types of computer equipment, ranging from computers to monitors, printers and accessories. Cellphones and CD and DVD players won't be accepted yet at the sites.
Consumers, producers and retailers will pay a handling fee when dropping off their electronics ranging from $5 for laptop computers to between $15 and $45 for TVs, depending on their size.
According to the ESABC, about 1.4 million people in B.C. have obsolete electronics in their home because they don't know what to do with them and don't want to send them to a landfill.
