One of Vancouver's oldest commercial printers has decided to wind up operations after 97 years in business.

Broadway Printers, which has been in the Blockberger family for four generations, has been sold to Thunderbird Press. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

Broadway Printers had been in operation since November 11, 1911, when it was founded by Friedrich Blockberger, great grandfather of outgoing president Tom Blockberger.

The sale will more than double Thunderbird's revenue from its $3.7 million in 2007. With more than $4.7 million in revenue last year, Broadway was one of Metro Vancouver's largest commercial printers.

The combined operation will continue to be headquartered at Thunderbird's Richmond facility and headed by company's president Kathy Forrest.
