Vancouver’s Quicktech Computer Consulting Inc., Sechelt’s Hapi Food Group Inc., Vancouver’s Tasktop Technologies, Fort Nelson’s Down to Earth Health Shop and Vancouver’s FrogBox Inc. have won this year’s Small Business BC (SBBC) Successful You awards.
Judges named IT consultancy Quicktech best company, commending it on spotting an underserved niche and successfully switching directions to focus on corporate clients rather than residential.
“While many companies struggled during the economic downturn, I was impressed with Quicktech’s ability to keep nimble and to switch strategies to focus on commercial clients, particularly those in recession proof industries,” said judge Cybele Negris, president and co-founder of Webnames.ca.
Dragon’s Den success story Hapi Food Group Inc., makers of Holy Crap cereal, was named best concept, with judge Bruce Hurst of Reid Hurst Nagy Inc. praising “a unique product concept that not only had commercial viability but it also tapped into job creation in depressed areas and the model appears to be relatively easily replicated in a number of locations.”
Task-focused interface technology company Tasktop, which has never lost a single employee, was named best employer.
Rental moving box business Frogbox and health food store the Down to Earth Health Shop tied for best green business.
