Golden Predator Royalty & Development Corp. (TSX:GPD) hopes the addition of former Yukon premier Piers McDonald to its board will hasten the development of its gold projects.
"McDonald was instrumental in creating Yukon's favourable economical environment, and we look forward to drawing on his experience in developing our company into the leading gold company in the Yukon," said William Sheriff, Golden Predator's chairman and CEO.
McDonald was Yukon's premier from 1996 to 2000, but his legislative career in the territory dates back to 1982.
Prior to being elected premier, he was minister of economic development, mines & small business, education, finance and workers compensation.
McDonald originally moved to the Klondike to work as an underground miner at the United Keno Hill Mines in Elsa, Yukon.
He is also founder and chairman of Yukon land developer Northern Vision Development Corp., and is a director of NorthwesTel, which provides telecommunications across Northern Canada.
Vancouver-based Golden Predator has been on an aggressive campaign to promote the Yukon as Canada's next big mining jurisdiction, and in February formed the Yukon Gold Alliance with six other companies.
Golden Predator's share price range in the last week: $0.57 and $0.60; 52-week high: $0.88; 52-week low: $0.38.
